Death Penalty Rap
By ACLU of Ohio Student Intern Sharia Jackson

Yo, you got convicted of a crime and you ain't got no parole
All because they said you killed someone without no thinking control

And now you thinking to yourself how could this be me
Lethal injection and the electric chair was the governments source

It has come to be a part of our nation's history and til this day it's still a mystery

How can you kill somebody and then just be sentence to death
You need to suffer and think about what you did like all of the rest

But in some cases it never really goes down like that
Because it depends on the state you're in and whether you're white or black

It's unfair how this system treat people you see
Because the black people don't have the same opportunity

It's about money, being rich, and always having the doe
It's the main source you need to keep you off of death row

You need somebody that is going to represent with care and time and a public defender is less likely to have an open mind

You see the death penalty is not the right way to go
it's arbitrary, nonsense, and unconstitutional

You may feel the death penalty is the way to get revenge
But it never takes away the pain you feel within

So just think about what it's really going to do
Because we are still trying to abolish it and we're not quite through
