ACLU of Ohio board members care deeply about individual rights, and
many have expressed an appreciation of the social and intellectual
stimulation of working with others who share their commitment to freedom
and justice.
Board members provide strategic direction for the
organization’s legal, educational, and financial goals, ensuring that the
organization carries out its mission. They make a substantial commitment
in time and talent to move our work forward.
Board member requirements include:
A commitment to civil liberties
Current membership in the ACLU
Regular attendance and participation at board and committee meetings
A willingness to leverage personal and/or institutional resources on
behalf of the organization
Participation in the annual fund campaign
Ability to articulate the mission and work of the organization.
It is preferred that candidates for the board have previous activist or
leadership experience with the ACLU, such as serving on a committee,
involvement with a chapter or working group, or volunteering on an ACLU
campaign.
Board meetings are held five times per year, with four meetings held in
Columbus and one in Cleveland. Meetings are held on Saturdays, from
10:30 am -3:30 pm. In addition, board members are expected to attend
special ACLU events in their areas on occasion, to participate in
committee meetings and phone conferences, and to participate in email
communications.
