Keeping America Safe and Free

Volunteer Attorneys

Ohio volunteer lawyers donated over $583,000 worth of legal services in fiscal year 2006-2007. The hours volunteer attorneys contribute to the ACLU are a vital asset to our legal program. It is with their support that the ACLU maintains its public presence and reputation as a guardian of liberty.

ACLU of Ohio volunteer attorneys have:

  • Defended the students and families victimized in the May 4th, 1970 Kent State shootings (Krause v. Rhodes).
  • Fought for the rights of citizens to distribute political flyers (McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission).
  • Advocated for inmates subjected to inhumane, harmful prison conditions (Austin v. Wilkinson).

ACLU volunteer attorneys provide pro bono legal representation to people whose civil liberties have been violated. These volunteers include sole practitioners, recent law school graduates, some of the nation’s most prominent lawyers, and many of the major firms in America.

If you are an attorney and are interested in learning more about volunteering with the ACLU of Ohio’s legal program, please send an email detailing what type of law you practice and your areas of interest to contact@acluohio.org. Someone from the Ohio legal staff will contact you.
