Volunteer Position Available
Community Outreach Assistant

Position description
Represent the ACLU at community events. Engage visitors, recruit members, hand out literature, share information about recent ACLU activities and issues, and selling small items like t-shirts.

Volunteers are primarily needed in Cleveland and Columbus, and will be called on from time to time in other regions of the state.

Specific skills needed

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be friendly, energetic, and feel comfortable talking with folks you do not know, and who may disagree with ACLU positions.
  • Must be detail oriented and trustworthy in handling cash.
  • Awareness of ACLU mission, educational events, and other work.
  • Must be willing to attend tabling training session prior to tabling event.

Requirements for all volunteer positions

  • ACLU membership, commitment to civil liberties issues and equality.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office, Internet and email. Access to email from home.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Time frame

  • A commitment of three months is preferred.
  • Evening and weekend hours, typically 2 – 4 hours.

Schedule
Flexible as events are scheduled in the volunteer’s region of the state.
