Our Take on This Bill

While much of the budget is unrelated to civil liberties, a few provisions were added that affect reproductive choice of women across the state. The budget clarifies that state funds will not be used to cover any cost associated with abortions, including premiums for coverage related to abortions, and it adds language to prohibit public facilities from performing abortions not related to rape, incest, or to save the life of the woman. These budget amendments restrict women’s control over their reproductive choices on multiple fronts, and the ACLU of Ohio opposes these amendments to further limit Ohio women’s reproductive options.
