Civil Liberties in the Age of Obama

Description: Susan Herman, national president of the American Civil Liberties Union will present the Cannon Lecture at the University of Toledo College of Law. Herman will analyze the actions taken thus far by the Obama administration, separating the rhetoric of campaign promises from the actions of a White House administration in areas such as ending military commissions and extraordinary rendition, closing Guantanamo Bay, and restoring habeas corpus.

Susan Herman was elected president of the ACLU in 2008, after having served on the ACLU National Board of Directors for 20 years and as general counsel for 10 years. Additionally, Herman is Centennial Professor of Law at Brooklyn Law School, and is widely regarded as an expert on constitutional and criminal procedure.
