Your Power! is about giving you to the tools to make a difference in your community; it’s also a time to hear from so many of you who already have! We're very excited to introduce the first group of outstanding speakers who have committed to appear at Your Voice! You Power!:
Zach Wahls
You may have seen him on YouTube, or maybe on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Zach is an engineering student and the son of two loving lesbian parents. He also became an overnight hero to the LGBT community after he took the Iowa General Assembly to school on the issue of gay marriage. Click here to see Zach in action! Video of Zach’s testimony has officially gone viral, receiving over two million hits on YouTube! He is currently writing a memoir about his experience growing up in a two-mom family and will be at Your Voice! Your Power! to talk about his life, and the importance of LGBT equality.
Nsombi Lambright
When anti-choice groups tried to amend the Mississippi State constitution to effectively outlaw abortion, Nsombi Lambright helped lead the fight against them. Nsombi is the Executive Director of the ACLU of Mississippi, an affiliate that first opened its doors in 1969, to represent Civil Rights Workers who were being jailed, beaten and killed for participating in demonstrations. In the heart of the Bible belt, Nsombi fought tirelessly against the Mississippi Personhood Amendment. Her work paid off! The amendment was ultimately rejected by voters in what many consider to be the most conservative state in the nation. Rejected in Mississippi, the anti-choice movement has now come to Ohio. With a personhood amendment poised to appear on our November ballot, Nsombi will arrive at Your Voice! Your Power! ready to share the important details of her successful fight for women’s rights.
