Core Agenda for ACLU Campus Clubs

Educational events

Campus clubs are encouraged to sponsor speakers, forums, debates, film showings, and other events on timely civil liberties topics. It is often valuable to cosponsor such activities with other groups on campus to improve publicity and turnout. Clubs also sponsor information tables to distribute ACLU literature and may submit articles to campus publications.

Monitoring civil liberties on campus

Campus clubs participate in actions to protect civil liberties in their schools. Actions might focus on campus-related issues such as drug testing policies, student speech codes, sexual harassment policies, or student Internet use. Clubs may raise public awareness  or even get involved in specific situations involving alleged violations of civil liberties by school authorities.

Issue advocacy

Campus clubs serve to mobilize involvement in national and state ACLU campaigns within their schools and communities.
