Stewardship Coordinator
This position is based in Cleveland, Ohio
Summary
The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio Foundation is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to preserving and protecting the Bill of Rights through litigation and
public education. The organization is funded solely through individual contributions
and occasional foundation grants.
Over the years staff members have found the ACLU to be an accommodating, inspiring
and fun place to work. Although the environment is informal staff members wear
jeans to work a good deal of the time we are an activist, hard-working team
involved in the life of the community.
Responsibilities
As a key staffperson reporting to the Development Director and Executive Director,
the Stewardship Coordinator is a junior team member with the room and capacity for
advancement in the ACLU of Ohio’s development program. The position has
responsibility for coordinating cultivation and stewardship efforts including, but
not limited to, events and individual donor meetings — with an emphasis on
moving these donors and prospects into higher levels of giving over time. The
position reports to the Director of Development.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Donor communication and interaction, including but not limited to
organization of donor cultivation events, scheduling of donor meetings for
the Development Director and Executive Director, and recruitment and staffing
of donors for ACLU volunteer positions.
- Maintenance of a small portfolio (15-20) of Annual Fund donors with giving
capacity of $500-1,000, including solicitation of annual gifts and ongoing
communication throughout the year.
- Communication with donors via social networking sites including Facebook,
Twitter, and other similar community sites.
- Work as a “utility player” with Education and Public Policy
Departments to organize education programming and coordinate volunteers.
Education program responsibilities include but are not limited to participation
in the ACLU of Ohio Speakers Bureau and organizing all facets of programs at
the ACLU and around the state aimed at educating donors and members on key
civil liberties issues.
- Participation in development program evaluation and planning.
- Collection and maintenance of confidential data on donors and prospects.
- Writing articles for electronic and print communication vehicles.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Development Director and
Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated personal commitment to and enthusiasm for civil rights and
civil liberties, and to high ethical standards.
- At least three years of demonstrated success with non-profit, advocacy,
or other community-based groups, preferably in development-related activities.
- At least a Bachelor’s degree.
- High degree of self-motivation and organization, including attention to
detail, ability to work independently on assignments and projects, ability to
work well under pressure, prioritize work, seek appropriate guidance, and meet
deadlines.
- Superior verbal communication and written communication skills.
- Excellent office and computer skills, including database management, Word,
Excel, Outlook, and internet research. Knowledge of fundraising software
(Raiser’s Edge and/or PIDI Donor Direct) preferred.
- Commitment to diversity that values the individual and respects differences

- Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime, irregular hours
(including some weekends), and travel.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental,
vision and life insurance plans; retirement benefits; and an ample paid time off
policy.
