Gerrymandering Won’t Prevail, The People Will!

    Protest - ACLU Voter

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court completely abdicated its judicial responsibility to ensure that the fundamentals of our democratic system — like fair elections — are strong and sound. It’s a sad day.

The Court’s broad 5-4 decision — instructing all federal courts to henceforth stay out of cases involving the most extreme partisan gerrymandering — is a gut-punch to all who insist that voters must choose their politicians, not the other way around.

Right now, Ohio spends over $1.8 billion every year to hold nearly 50,000 people in prison. Many of those prisoners struggle with addiction, and many are locked up for simple drug crimes.

Throwing people in prison has not solved our state’s drug problems – but it has hurt thousands of Ohio families.

    Church and State Cross Streets

The First Amendment guarantees all persons the right to practice their faith without government intrusion, including the right to abstain from religious belief or expression altogether.

This goes to the heart of what it means to be American. The Constitution’s insistence on religious freedom makes our personal liberties genuine.
