When Jack contacted us in the summer of 2012, he had reached his lowest point. Despite having been out of trouble for years, he could not escape the constant threat of being jailed every time he fell behind on his court payments.
He lost his job, his home, and still the court threatened to send him back to jail when he could not pay his fines.
Jack Dawley stood up for justice and sparked a statewide movement to end debtors’ prison practices in Ohio. Help us honor him at the 2014 biennial conference.
Jack’s story sparked a statewide movement to end draconian debtors’ prison practices and brought about dramatic reform. As a result of his courage and our intervention, his life has taken an incredible turn.
Jack is now a floor supervisor at a fruit packing plant. He has moved into an apartment and has reinstated his driver’s license. In two years, he has gone from having no hope to professing, “the sky is the limit.”
Our July 25 cocktail reception, which will honor Jack, is the perfect lead-in to a Saturday conference full of new opportunities for activism. In addition to honoring Jack, the reception is an opportunity to mix and mingle with civil liberties advocates from across the state and rub elbows with nationally recognized experts on the issues you care about.
Join us as we raise a toast to this truly inspiring man. Register now for the cocktail reception and conference.
