ACLU of Ohio and the Lawyer's Committee Send Urgent Letter to Gov. DeWine and Members of the OGA Regarding Ohio's Primary Election

COLUMBUS, OHIO —Today, the ACLU of Ohio and the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under Law sent a letter to Governor DeWine, Secretary LaRose, Speaker Householder, and President Obhof to raise concerns regarding the State's primary Election Day Administration. The organizations urge that the deadline to request an absentee ballot be extended to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, and that provision be made for absentee voters to drop off absentee ballots at their assigned polling places, in addition to their local Board of Election.

"We urge the state to take the pressure off of the polling places on Election Day by enacting these commonsense efforts to permit people to vote while maintaining some social distancing during this critical time. We acknowledge the Governor's decisive actions to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and sincerely hope that he operates with the same precautionary action to protect Ohioans' right to vote in the primary election," said Freda Levenson, Legal Director for the ACLU of Ohio.
