Bio

Carlen Zhang-D’Souza is a Staff Attorney with the ACLU of Ohio. She conducts complex constitutional research and assists all stages of civil litigation. She is devoted to ensuring that the government does not infringe upon people's civil liberties and civil rights, which are critical to a functioning democratic society.

Prior to the ACLU, she worked at the Ohio Legislative Service Commission where she drafted legislation, summarized and analyzed bills, and conducted in-depth research to assess the constitutionality of proposed legislation. Before that, she practiced at a law firm in Columbus.

Carlen graduated with Distinction from the University of Michigan in 2010; she received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013. As a law student, Carlen was a Geneva International Fellow for the International Service for Human Rights.

In her free time, she likes being outdoors with her family, and runs a book summary website (all views her own). She also serves on the advisory board for the University of Michigan English Department.
