The ACLU of Ohio joins Wilberforce University and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to advocate for the state of Ohio to officially declare racism a public health crisis, and put the necessary resources behind eradicating systemic racism.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, the ACLU of Ohio is hosting a film screening of the movie Till at Fairfield Commons Stadium in Beavercreek, followed by a panel discussion. Till tells the story of Mamie Till-Mobley and her unwavering fight for justice for her beloved son, Emmett. Her decisions to force the country to face the horrors of white supremacy through Emmett’s murder are widely acknowledged as the beginning of the American Civil Rights Movement.

Following the film screening, a panel of experts will discuss the film, the impact of Mamie Till-Mobley and Emmett Till’s legacy, and the continued fight for racial justice in Ohio – including a deep look into how systemic inequities in voting rights, police violence, and the school to prison pipeline require public officials declare racism a public health crisis. ACLU of Ohio Board President, Dr. Ebony Speaks-Hall, will moderate the panel. Panelists include OSU Associate Professor of History, Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Midwestern Regional Vice President for Alpha Phi Alpha, Ronald D. Stovall, Jr., and Wilberforce University Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Marc DeWitt.
