Alice and Staughton Lynd were interviewed on September 30, 2013 in Niles, Ohio by Emily Wicks as a part of our Oral History Project. Alice and Staughton are prominent activists and have been involved in numerous causes, including the civil rights movement, the anti-war movement, workers’ rights, and prisoners’ rights. They have worked with the ACLU of Ohio as volunteer attorneys for over 20 years. Legal cases discussed in this interview include Lynd v. Rusk (1967), Workers Against Toxic Chemical Hazards v. General Motors (1991), Wilkinson v. Austin (2008), and cases pertaining to the Lucasville prison riot and the “Lucasville Five” (Skatzes v. Smith, LaMar v. Houk, and Hasan v. Ishee).
