Join the ACLU of Ohio, the Rainey Institute and Karamu House for an event in honor of Banned Books Week, the celebration of the universal freedom to read, which was launched in response to a surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries.
African Americans have long used humor and the arts as tools to expose racism and strive towards equality. However, this creativity has faced suppression due to confusion and fear of challenging the status quo. Hear community members read uplifting works from black activists to show that sometimes laughter is the best medicine.
