CLEVELAND – The ACLU of Ohio welcomes Mary A. Paxton as its new Director of Development. She has nearly 20 years of experience working in director-level roles with several Cleveland-based non-profits including New Directions, United Church of Christ, Salvation Army, Villa Angela—St. Joseph High School, E CITY, and the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio.

Paxton has a B.A. in economics from Allegheny College, a M.A. in non-profit administration from John Carroll University, and is a Ph.D. candidate in organizational psychology at Capella University.

“Mary brings a lifelong demonstrated commitment to community service and justice advocacy, as well as a track-record of success in non-profit leadership and fundraising excellence,” said executive director J. Bennett Guess. “She has a dynamic personality and is an extremely knowledgeable development professional. She will be a superb addition to the ACLU of Ohio’s leadership team.”

The Development Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing fundraising programs and leading the progression and expansion of the organization’s fundraising strategies. The five-person development team also includes two regional development officers, a development associate, and a program associate.

“Having spent the vast majority of my career working for organizations that address issues of justice and advocate for individuals, each position I’ve held has called me to move without judgment, to recognize that everyone has a voice and the right to be heard, and people deserve to be treated with dignity,” Paxton said. “These experiences have prepared me for the ACLU of Ohio. I am excited to join an organization that is passionate about, and committed to, the values of fairness, equality, and respect.”

Paxton is working in the ACLU of Ohio’s Cleveland office.
