Our Take on This Bill

The ACLU of Ohio opposes efforts like HB 457 that have offenders billed for serving their sentences. Individuals who have found themselves in the justice system are largely vulnerable, often facing tremendous obstacles in finding, securing, and maintaining employment. HB 457 adds the additional burden of a daily fee for electronic monitoring for both children and adults, creating further barriers to successful re-entry back into society.
