Together with the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition, we sent to Secretary LaRose last week sharing our comments on his office’s proposed directives impacting the Election Officials Manual.

Today, the ACLU of Ohio, the Ohio Immigrant Alliance and others sent a letter to Ohio’s 88 county sheriffs outlining the dangers of carrying out President-elect Trump’s inhumane immigration policies.

Today, Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 29, legislation that will remove many of the financial barriers that lead to driver’s license suspensions. With the adoption of this policy, Ohio becomes the 25th state to move away from debt-related penalties.

Today, the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Ohio filed an amicus brief in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in a lawsuit by Plaintiff-Appellants (the “parent group”) challenging Olentangy Local School District’s (the “District”) student speech policies. 

Today, the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 104, an anti-trans bathroom bill requiring individuals in primary and secondary schools as well as institutions of higher education to use restrooms and other facilities that align with their sex assigned at birth.

Today, the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas issued a permanent injunction blocking Ohio’s 2019 six-week abortion ban from taking effect, marking the first permanent injunction stemming from Ohio’s Reproductive Freedom Amendment, which took effect in December 2023.

Today, we sent a letter to Secretary LaRose outlining how his removals of purported “noncitizens” from the voter rolls violate the National Voter Registration Act because they are being conducted during the 90-day period prior to a federal election. 

Today, the ACLU of Ohio, the National ACLU, All Voting is Local, the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, Common Cause Ohio, and the League of Women Voters of Ohio sent a letter to Secretary of State Frank LaRose regarding the potential disenfranchisement of naturalized citizens.
