HB 592 – Electronic Audio Court Records (2011-2012)

HB 592 mandates that every court in Ohio record every proceeding that comes before the court with an electronic audio device. The court audio recordings are public records, unless the record is restricted from public access by court rule or statute.

The ACLU of Ohio broadly approves of wide access to state records, and HB 592’s provisions to have audio recordings of court proceedings statewide provide an additional medium to make public records accessible and court proceedings more transparent.
